Example: ‘I love rock music’ Sara said. (Direct speech)
Sara said that she loved rock music. (Reported/indirect speech)
See that in the reported speech we use a verb to introduce the sentence, in this case said. In this unit we are going to classify the main reporting verbs.

Example: Tony warned us not to eat that piece of cake.

Example: My brother apologised for breaking the windowpane.

Example: The boy suggested going for a walk before it started raining.

Example: Susan explained that she was going to move to Australia.

Note: many of the verbs listed above, for instance promise, can be used in one or more structures.
