Inventing and guessing

When inventing or guessing possible situations or objects we use the second conditional and modals of deduction.

Contingut exercicis
Second conditional:
WOULD + INFINITIVE

I would build a house that speaks to the owner (inventing)

I would say they are at the bar, but I'm not sure (guessing)

Modals of deduction:
MUST (phone ringing) That must be Claire.
MAY The keys may be inside the house, but I'm not sure.
MIGHT They might come later.
COULD Where could she be?
CAN'T The man you saw can't be my dad. He's out of town.

Other expressions that may be used are the following:

I guess I guess it's her phone number, but I'm not sure.
I think I think the answer to this question is “no”.
I suppose I suppose she'll be happy to hear that.
I would say I would say the boy has fallen down the stairs.
I believe I believe my parents will get a divorce.
I imagine I imagine she got home at six.
Is it...? What's this? Is it wine?
It looks like... I don't know what it is but it looks like chocolate.
